SmartEndo: An AI-Powered Screening Tool for Endometriosis Risk Assessment
Endometriosis is a growing public health concern, affecting 1 in 10 women of reproductive age globally, including 1.2 million in Bangladesh. Factors such as lack of awareness, social stigma, normalization of menstrual pain, and limited access to healthcare may contribute to a 6 to 10 years delay between the symptoms onset and diagnosis. This delay can lead to serious consequences like infertility, mental health problems, strained relationships etc. Economically, endometriosis imposes a significant burden, both in direct medical costs and indirect costs due to lost productivity. The project SmartEndo aims to develop a culturally accepted, AI-powered, self-administered, questionnaire-based screening tool for early risk assessment of endometriosis. The tool will identify at-risk groups early and refer them for further intervention to reduce diagnostic delays, promote timely interventions, and enhance equitable access to endometriosis care across Bangladesh.
