
Seminar on Health Reforms and Comprehensive Health Security in Bangladesh
On 24 May 2025, a thought-provoking seminar on “স্বাস্থ্যখাত সংস্কার ও সর্বজনীন সুরক্ষা” (Health Sector Reforms and Comprehensive Health Security) was organized by নাগরিক ঐক্য (Nagorik Oikya) at the Dhaka Reporters Unity auditorium. The event brought together policymakers, health professionals, and thought leaders to discuss the future of Bangladesh’s healthcare sector and the urgent need for universal health security.
The seminar began with opening remarks that highlighted the significance of health sector reforms in ensuring equitable access to healthcare services for every citizen. The panel included several distinguished figures from across sectors, and among them was Prof. Dr. Khondaker Abdullah Al Mamun, Director of IRIIC at UIU and Founder of CMED Health. Prof. Mamun shared his insights on leveraging digital health and technology-driven models to achieve universal health coverage (UHC). He emphasized that beyond building infrastructure, it is essential to integrate smart health monitoring systems, data-driven decision-making, and community-based initiatives to truly transform healthcare delivery in Bangladesh.
Prof. Mamun also pointed out that collaborative efforts from the government, private sector, and civil society are vital to making health reforms impactful. His call to action resonated deeply with the audience, especially when he spoke about how Bangladesh can leapfrog into a Bangladesh 2.0 era by adopting AI-driven preventive and personalized care solutions.
Other notable speakers included respected medical professionals, health reform advocates, and civic leaders, all echoing the urgent need for holistic reforms that balance affordability, accessibility, and quality of care. Discussions also focused on reducing out-of-pocket expenses, standardizing healthcare accreditation, and enhancing accountability in the health sector.
