Innovation Talks with Imadur Rahman: A Visionary Outlook on Bangladesh’s Satellite Industry

On January 28, 2025, the Institute of Research, Innovation, Incubation, and Commercialization (IRIIC) at United International University (UIU) hosted an exclusive session of Innovation Talks featuring Imadur Rahman, the Managing Director & CEO of Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL). Held at the Smart Auditorium of UIU’s Innovation Hub, the session focused on “Bangladeshi Satellite Industry: The Present and the Future.”

Imadur Rahman, a globally recognized expert in wireless communication systems and satellite technologies, shared his deep insights and experience in leading the nation’s satellite infrastructure. Prior to his role at BSCL, he served as a Principal Researcher at Ericsson Research, contributing to the development of 5G systems and cutting-edge network architectures. With decades of expertise in telecom innovation and global technology ecosystems, Mr. Rahman is now spearheading BSCL’s mission to elevate Bangladesh’s standing in the global satellite domain.

During the session, Mr. Rahman outlined how Bangabandhu Satellite-1 has laid the foundation for Bangladesh’s space ambitions and discussed the roadmap for upcoming satellite initiatives, including the potential launch of Bangabandhu Satellite-2. He emphasized the importance of investing in local research and innovation capabilities to sustain the country’s technological independence and digital sovereignty.

The talk also engaged students, researchers, and faculty in a dynamic discussion on how universities can contribute to national satellite and aerospace development through targeted R&D and industry collaboration. Mr. Rahman’s inspiring remarks encouraged young innovators to view space technologies not as distant dreams but as actionable goals within Bangladesh’s reach.
