On February 28, 2025, Prof. Khondaker Abdullah Al Mamun, Director of IRIIC at United International University and Founder of CMED Health, participated in Day 2 of the AI4D Workshop in Taipei, focused on the theme “Responsible AI, Empowering People – Asia”. The workshop was organized by the Digital Asia Hub with support from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
Held at Humble House, Taipei, the second day of the workshop brought together sectoral experts, government officials, researchers, and digital policy advocates from across South and Southeast Asia to explore how AI can be harnessed responsibly to improve lives, drive inclusive development, and support long-term economic and social growth.
Prof. Mamun shared his reflections on the importance of building responsible, rights-based AI ecosystems tailored to regional challenges.
One of the highlights of the day was the panel on “AI Innovation for SDGs”, where experts from Vietnam, Pakistan, Singapore, and beyond shared country-level insights into aligning AI innovation with the Sustainable Development Goals. The discussions emphasized not just technological advancement, but also the critical need for community engagement, policy coherence, and collaborative governance models.
Reflecting on his experience, Prof. Mamun noted: “It was a very exciting day of learning and collaboration—engaging with experts from government, NGOs, and international agencies on how to adapt AI for development across Asia. The discussions made it clear that AI must serve as a tool for equity, not division.”
Prof. Mamun’s participation reaffirmed IRIIC’s role as a regional thought leader, contributing to global dialogues on ethical AI while ensuring that Bangladesh remains at the forefront of responsible digital transformation.
