Prof. Khondaker A. Mamun Represents CMED at Global AI Summit on Africa 2025
On April 3–4, 2025, Prof. Khondaker Abdullah Al Mamun, Director of IRIIC at United International University and Founder of CMED Health, participated in the prestigious Global AI Summit on Africa, held in Kigali, Rwanda. Organized by the World Economic Forum, the Rwanda Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR), and the Government of Rwanda, the summit brought together global leaders, policymakers, and innovators to explore AI’s transformative potential across the African continent.
The summit focused on the theme “AI and Africa’s Demographic Dividend: Reimagining Economic Opportunities for Africa’s Workforce.” It emphasized ethical, inclusive, and human-centered AI innovations that address real-world challenges—from healthcare and education to employment and infrastructure.
Key announcements at the event included the creation of a $60 billion AI investment fund aimed at building a robust AI ecosystem across Africa. The initiative aspires to lift over 11 million people out of poverty and create 500,000 jobs annually by 2030, signaling Africa’s intent to become a global leader in responsible AI development.
Prof. Mamun’s participation highlighted CMED Health’s commitment to democratizing healthcare through AI. His work in Bangladesh served as a powerful example of how AI-powered platforms can strengthen healthcare delivery, particularly in underserved regions, and resonated with the summit’s goals of equity and innovation.
As a contributor to one of the most forward-looking discussions on AI policy and practice in the Global South, Prof. Mamun reinforced IRIIC and CMED Health’s position on the global stage as leaders in ethical AI for health and development.
